On scanning the schedules of the Appropriation Act for this year, reminds one of some lively incidents of the Kelly gang time. The widow of Sergeant Kennedy (who was shot by Ned Kelly), receives £49 per year. Constable McIntyre who was the only one to escape from the Wombat encounter, and who hid in a wombat hole all night, receives £52 per annum. Michael Reardon, who was injured at Glenrowan at the capture of the gang has an allowance of £53. Constable Hugh Bracken who also took part in the Glenrowan capture is allowed £30 a year. While some of their seniors we know were made police magistrates.
