It is, by now, the accepted belief that at Glenrowan Ned Kelly was riding Joe Byrne’s grey mare, Music. But, with the available contemporary evidence, can we prove this to be the case?

The Kelly Gang (05/07/1880)
“FROM telegraphic reports to the Sydney newspapers we are enabled to supply the latest particulars of the overthrow of the Kelly gang and the capture of Ned Kelly.”
The Beechworth Courthouse is finally open with an immersive audio-visual experience about the Kelly trials.
In my poking around through various documents related to the story of the gang I found a bundle through the Public Records Office of Victoria that included a list of items that had been recovered from the gang, mostly at Glenrowan.

Ned Kelly gave forewarning of the scale of his Glenrowan plot, as well as some of the motivation behind it, in the letters he wrote with Joe Byrne at Euroa and Jerilderie. At the time these seemed to be more or less hollow threats, but following the Glenrowan tragedy they are almost chilling in their forewarning.
